The Work and Silence

Where inquiry meets stillness

What happens when we integrate The Work of Byron Katie with Zen practice? We discover that they are not separate but two expressions of the same reality.

"Byron Katie may never have trained in Buddhism, but what she teaches is pure dharma. Her Work is Manjusri's delusion-cutting sword, and she uses it fearlessly, relentlessly, and with utmost generosity. I have rarely seen anyone—spiritual teachers included—realize the essential nature of not-knowing as powerfully as Katie in her passionate embrace of each and every moment."

Bernie Glassman Roshi

In the workshops and retreats I facilitate, we slow down. We listen inside ourselves. We allow whatever needs to surface to do so. The Work then unfolds naturally, without rushing toward any preconceived answers. The silence supports the inquiry; the inquiry illuminates the silence.

The Four Questions

  1. Is it true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it's true?
  3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
  4. Who or what would you be without the thought?

Then turn it around, and find genuine examples of each turnaround.
